1Cold Electroweak Baryogenesis
The origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe is still a mystery. Particle physicists believe it should arise as a consequence of the microscopic behavior of matter in the Very Early Universe. There are many models trying to describe the origin of the asymmetry via the fundamental interactions of Particle Physics. Since 1967 we know that at least 3 conditions must be met
[1]: there should be baryon (B) violating, as well as C and CP violating, interactions in a strongly out of equilibrium stage of the expansion of the Universe in order for an asymmetry to develop.
In a seminal paper in 1985, Kuzmin, Rubakov and Shaposhnikov
[2] suggested that the Electroweak model of fundamental particle physics interactions had all the required microscopic ingredientes for a successful baryogenesis at the electroweak scale of around 200 GeV. The only extra ingredient that was necessary was the out-of-equilibrium stage in the early universe.
In 1999 it was realized that the violent stage of reheating after inflation had the required out-of-equilibrium conditions necessary for baryogenesis at the electroweak scale
[3], as long as cosmological inflation occurred at such low scales or, alternatively, it went through a secondary stage of inflation that lasted just enough efolds to cool the universe and subsequently the universe reheated. The best realization of such an idea was found in the context of hybrid inflation models
[4].
1.1Tachyonic Preheating
The process of reheating after hybrid inflaton occurs in an explosive way due to the spinodal instability of the Higgs as it acquires a negative mass squared before settling at the minimum of its potential. The process is known by the name of tachyonic preheating
